In Dimenshot, basic melee attacks and successful parries both restore health, and every weapon grants extra energy the instant it hits an enemy. Hotfix v0.1916 (Oct 18, 2026) added Perfect Parry — a tighter window that pays a larger energy reward — and the health cap that limits how much a hit heals now scales dynamically as you take damage. Dash i-frames, wall-run, Super Dash and Ground Slam cover what you cannot parry. Flexberg publishes no numbers for any of it.

How you actually stay alive

Landing a melee hit or a successful parry restores health. That is the whole survival loop: damage and healing are the same input, so a fight you survive is a fight where you kept hitting.

Two things sit on top of that loop and decide whether you can keep it up: energy, which pays for your movement and ability options, and the healing cap, which decides how much of a swing you can actually bank back.

Perfect Parry

Hotfix v0.1916 (Oct 18, 2026) added Perfect Parry. The patch note describes it as a tighter timing window than a normal parry with a larger energy reward when you hit it — a deliberate reward for committing to the exact frame instead of mashing.

What that changes in play:

  • A normal parry still counts; Perfect Parry is the upgrade on top of it.
  • Tighter timing means a late parry is a normal parry or a miss, not a free hit.
  • The reward is energy, so Perfect Parry feeds the movement and ability layer directly.

The same patch also made parrying the boss the notes call Proud interrupt its attack and push it into a retreat or dodge — so a well-timed parry now changes the fight's tempo instead of only patching your health.

Where energy comes from

Energy is earned by hitting things, not by waiting. The combat rework made every weapon grant extra energy the moment it hits an enemy, and a later balance pass raised overall combat energy gain. Energy orbs were made more valuable and more frequent at the same time.

What that means at the controller:

  • Every connected hit is an energy gain — no weapon is a dead pick for energy.
  • Energy orbs are the reliable top-up when you are playing safe and not connecting.
  • Holding down the fastest weapons is not free: rapid Dart and Katana use progressively lowers your attack speed, which costs you the hits that would have fed the bar.

The movement that covers the gaps between hits

MoveWhat the patch feed saysUse it when

Dash i-frames

Dashing grants brief invulnerability frames.

An attack is already committed and you cannot parry or trade in time.

Wall-run / wall-jump

Wall-run balance has been tuned, and missing wall-jump audio was added.

You want to cross an arena without dropping the combo chain.

Super Dash

Added as a dedicated dash option, alongside the separate Dash binding.

You need the extra distance to reach a target or to exit a boss arena.

Ground Slam

Made faster, and given its own binding separate from Melee Switch.

You want area pressure or a fast reposition without spending your weapon switch.

How to run the loop on a boss

  1. Take the hit only when you can trade

Every melee hit heals and grants energy, so the priority is staying in range rather than playing safe at the edge of the arena.

  2. Parry to bank, not just to block

A successful parry heals like a melee hit does, and a Perfect Parry pays energy on top. If a parry feels like it drops, check your timing — v0.1916 tightened that window.

Done when: A parry moves your health bar without you spending a swing.

  3. Dash out of what you cannot parry

Not everything is parryable. Dash i-frames are the answer for the attack you cannot read in time — spend them there rather than on chip damage.

Done when: You clear an unparryable attack without losing health.

  4. Burst the fast weapons instead of holding them

Rapid Dart or Katana use lowers your attack speed, and attack speed is what produces the hits that feed your healing and your energy. Burst and reset.

Where the player reports are

The clearest public write-up of these systems failing in practice is the Lethargos report on Standard difficulty, where parry timing and healing throughput are the headline problems — and where developer randvi has since replied in-thread confirming a balancing adjustment. See the Dimenshot Lethargos boss strategy page for that thread and the developer response, the Dimenshot weapons page for the melee set that feeds this loop, and the Dimenshot difficulty settings page for why the same fight feels different one tier up.
